Week 1 Emerald Downs Recap
A great opening weekend of racing at NASCAR Downs. The
feature was won by Jeff Gordon whose car is sponsored by One Horse Will Do
Corporation and Mike’s Hard Blackberry Lemonade. Kasey Kahne’s Cialis (for
Daily Use, of course) Car finished second messing up my exacta because I had
Jimmie Johnson’s Safeway Craigmont Energy Drink Car for second. Jimmie didn’t
do a good job drafting or sling shoting or whatever it is. I know nothing
about NASCAR except for what I’ve learned from Ricky Bobby. Shake and Bake.
A few important stats for your information:
*8 of the 20 races on opening weekend were won by Washington-Breds.
*Washington-Breds accounted for 83 of the 146 entries opening weekend.
*Was very impressed with how well prepared Trick or Retreat, a Washington-Bred, was to take on older horses
in open competition for the first time.
*O.B. Harbor was
impressive winning the feature race on Saturday. This three-year-old colt
division is going to be fantastic as we saw another potential future star in Fooled Again (named after my mid-20s
dating life).
*Harbor the Gold sired both feature race winners. Plain greedy.
*Most importantly, handle and attendance were up on both Saturday and Sunday. Good start and a good job by the Emerald Downs staff.
