A few notes from Derby weekend at Emerald Downs:
*First, this is how awesome your new President of Emerald
Racing, Phil Ziegler, is:
How many Presidents do you see doing this, especially on Kentucky Derby Day? Shows true
dedication and I thought it was pretty cool. Type of person you would want to
work for. I heard that Mr. Crockett was doing the same thing. Excellent. I was tempted to go up and request "$2 on one of everything" and see what happened. But I thought better of it.
You know, you could help them out by using Betemerald.com on
Ipad, etc. I know I am writing to crowd of people who think the Commodore 64 is
new technology, but Betemerald is pretty awesome.
*First, I picked American
Pharoah to win. He was the favorite so I don’t take too much pride in this
pick but he was clearly the superior horse going in. It is only irritating that
his name is speledd rong. Firing Line
did much better than I expected. Upstart
ran very poorly. With respect to longshots, I was somewhat correct about Danzig Moon (5th), but very
wrong about Tencendur. Do yourself a
favor and go back and look at Materiality
and the trip that he had. For a horse making his fourth lifetime start, he
handled a ton of trouble and dirt in his face and still closed, which most
horses were not allowed to do. I expect Materiality to be very tough in the
Belmont.
You could almost see Martin Garcia thinking "I wish I was on this horse."
*12 of the 25 races were won by Washington-Breds.
*Washington-Breds accounted for 89 of the 157 starters (57%)
last weekend.
*This 123Racing thing is getting fun and the pools look like
they are growing so continue to keep an eye on it.
