Fourth Weekend - Washington-Bred Winners

Before we begin, I have some unfortunate news. My dog, Logan, had his application to next year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show rejected.  The reason is that his breeding: ¼ Canaan, ¼ Labrador, ¼ Disobedient and ¼ Monster, is not recognized by the American Kennel Club. As a result, he has been on a bender for days:

A few things of note:

   (1) Washington-bred horses accounted for 91 out of the 133 horses entered last weekend.
   (2) Washington-breds won 15 of the 24 races last weekend.
   (3) By my count, Raise the Bluff has six wins so far this season:
   (4) And this:

Favorite video ever.

Race 1 Friday: Won by Sweet Sara Brown in 1:03.50 for 5.5 Furlongs. Sweet Sara Brown is by Matty G out of Brown (Demons Begone). Brown’s most successful offspring was Sweet Nellie Brown who earned almost $175,000. Brown has a Posse yearling and had an Atta Boy Roy colt on February 27th.

Race 3 Friday: Won by Nancy Wake (and Bake) in 58.01 for 5 Furlongs. Nancy Wake is by the prolific Harbor the Gold out of Eclatante (In Excess). The Hopps have good timing as they have a Lucky Pulpit yearling out of Eclatante, who will be in the WTBOA Sale this August.

Race 4 Friday:  Won by Our Pretty Woman in 1:10.18 for 6 Furlongs. By Flying With Eagles out of Knights Kaffer (Tough Knight). Our Pretty Woman ran the fastest 2 Furlong (21.42) and 4 Furlong time (43.92) on Friday night. Not bad for a $2,500 claimer.

Race 5 Friday: Won by He’s a Cruiser in 1:09.87 for 6 Furlongs. By Raise the Bluff out of Designer’s Gold (Stolen Gold), Cruiser closed from 5 Lengths back on a slower pace, so it was a good effort for the $5,000 claimer.

Race 6 Friday: Won by Spot On Babe in 102.42 for 5.5 Furlongs. By Tribal Rule out of Irene’s Bonus Baby, this was her second win this season. We have discussed Irene’s Bonus Baby in previous posts. Irene has a Papa Clem coming to the WTBOA yearling sale in August.

Race 7 Friday: Won by Making Fire in 1:15.79 for 6 Furlongs. By Makors Mark out of Unaflame (Far Out East), Making Fire is a half to Quinette (Stormy Jack) who earned over $114,000 in her career.

Race 1 Sunday: Nobluffjustgo broke her maiden on Sunday running 6 Furlongs in 1:12.05, which was a really slow time, but the track was sloppy and very tricky that day. By Raise the Bluff out of Can I Go (Darn That Alarm), No Bluff will have to step it up in the N2L race if she expects to compete.

Race 3 Sunday: Mylast Sweet Pea won by four lengths in a time of 1:04.77 for 5.5 Furlongs. By Grindstone out of Secret Game (Game Plan), Sweet Pea finished second in her last race on April 19th. Grindstone stands at Oakhurst Farm in Oregon:

Race 6 Sunday: Ducoti went gate-to-wire in a 1:04.80 for 5.5 Furlongs. Ducoti is by He’s Tops out of Go Platinum (Silver Buck). Ducoti transferred his recent form from Turf Paradise to win.

Race 7 Sunday: Last year’s two-year-old champ is back. Del Rio Harbor ran the 5.5 Furlongs in 1:03.65 proving he is the colt to beat in the 3-year-old division this year. Del Rio is by the oft-mentioned Harbor the Gold and out of Bahati (Horse Chestnut). We will get into Bahati in further detail, as it is almost a guarantee that she will be Broodmare of the Week in the future.
