Washington Broodmare of the Week - Chedoodle - Sponsored by K-Swag

Broodmare of the Week – Chedoodle – Sponsored by K-Swag

The Kentucky Derby is over and it's time to focus on the Emerald Downs' horses again.  The Washington Broodmare of the Week is Chedoodle. This is sort of a make up call for having Gana Facil as the Broodmare of the Week last week in honor of the Kentucky Derby. If you have not read that post, please consider reading it here:

http://militaryhawk.blogspot.com/2014/04/broodmare-of-week-gana-facil-great.html. It was the most fun I’ve had writing in a long time.

A foal of 1998, Chedoodle is by Slewdledo out of Chena (Chisos). Slewdledo requires no introduction and deserves his own blog entry, which I will write someday. Chena won six races and over $30,000 in her career. Chena was bred by Dean Essex and raced for most of her career by Run a Bit Syndicate. She was claimed by Richard Wright for $4,000 out of race at Yakima Meadows on April 15, 1994. She continued to race for Ava’s grandfather for the rest of her career.

Chedoodle was bred by the Gibsons and raced for Riverside Thoroughbreds. She made only one start on August 18, 2001, in an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Emerald Downs.

Keith Swagerty, whose rapper name is "K-Swag", purchased Chedoodle privately for his broodmare band. "K-Swag" is defined by the Urban Dictionary as “The highest level of swag possible.” (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=K-Swag). No doubt.

Let's take a brief detour and discuss Keith Swagerty. He was a two-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year at the University of the Pacific. He was drafted by both the New York Knicks and the ABA's Houston Mavericks. He chose to spend one year in Italy playing for Candy Bologna:

Great uniforms. The next year he went on to play for the Mavericks

Like Honis Wagner, he even has his own sports card worth millions:

(Sorry Keith, but these pictures were readily available and I could not resist using them.)

Now back to Chedoodle:

To date, Chedoodle has produced 6 horses of racing age. So far, Chedoodle has two offspring to race worthy of review.

The first is No Flies on Doodle, born on March 15, 2006. She was sired by Storm Blast, who was a $525,000 Keeneland July yearling purchase for Bob and Beverly Lewis. He had three career starts before being retired to stud.

No Flies was prolific on the racetrack winning 8 races and over $184,000, including four Stakes Races. Her most noteworthy win was a victory in the prestigious Washington Oaks.

No Flies had a three-year career. She was retired as a 5-year old at the end of the 2011 season.

But wait, there is more! In 2013, No Flies gave birth to a "fly free" filly by California stallion Rocky Bar. Named Irene Flies, let’s hope we see her on the track in 2015 or 2016. No Flies also had an Atta Boy Roy colt on April 11th of this year.

The second noteworthy horse out of Chedoodle is Mike Man’s Gold, owned by the Swagerty’s and Gallo Stables. By the Swagerty’s own stallion Liberty Gold, Mike Man’s Gold is a Multiple Stakes Winner and won Stakes at both two and three. His most significant victory came in last year’s Seattle Slew Handicap where he bested Music of My Soul at odds of 18.4 to 1.

Chedoodle won the Washington Broodmare of the Week based on Mike’s performance in a salty claiming race he won on April 26th in 108:01, the fastest six furlongs of the meet so far. He beat I Keep Saying, Fist Full of Green and the speedy Polish Dollar:

Chedoodle has been described by Farm Manager Karen Angelos as:

“Chedoodle is a Mare that has everyone's respect.  Her babies are wonderful and sweet but she has a killer kick if she doesn't like you or if you don't bring her carrots. Because she is the Stake producing Mare she knows she can pin her ears back and get anything she wants.”

That is right, this blog also does interviews along with having on-track photographers. You can’t buy this stuff. No really, the pictures and quotes were all free.

Chedoodle has an unraced three-year old by Grindstone named Chedoodlejan and a two-year old by Parker’s Storm Cat named Andiamo Deb. The well-named Chedoodlejan has recorded 5 workouts, so we should be seeing her really soon. Also, Andiamo Deb has had 4 short workouts so she is also well on her way to the races soon. Looking forward to it.

Cheedoodle has a yearling by Liberty Gold named Chedoodlejo and recently foaled a Liberty Gold colt on April 26, 2014. Both of these are full siblings to Mike Man’s Gold. Here are a few snapshots of Chedoodle and Liberty Gold courtesy of Karen Angelos:

Sorry, those were Cheez-Doodles. Here we go:

Adorable. Congrats, Chedoodle on winning an award from individual blogger, which is as prestigious as a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award.

In response to K-Swag's prolific rap career, Logan and I have just put the finishing touches on our own rap album. Here is the album cover:

From the mean streets of Ravenna where University Village is our playground.

Always love your animals (or at least cut a rap album with them),
